Amazon Expands International Scripted Team with New Hire
Amazon’s international scripted team is strengthening its presence with the appointment of Oliver Jones as Senior Commissioner for UK Scripted Content. Jones previously held the position of Senior Creative Executive for International Scripted Television at Apple, where he spent the last six years.
The announcement was made by Nicole Clemens, Vice President of International Originals, in a communication to staff. Jones will officially take up his new role in May and will be relocating from Los Angeles back to London, where he will collaborate closely with Clemens on various UK scripted series.
During his tenure at Apple, Jones oversaw numerous key projects, including English-language international event series and non-English language originals. His portfolio features notable titles such as Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Masters of the Air, the Israeli spy drama Tehran, and Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer.
Before his time at Apple, Jones gained experience at Fremantle, working on series like The Mosquito Coast, Fellow Travelers, and American Gods. He also contributed to projects with The Weinstein Company, where he worked on Yellowstone, and Imagine Television, known for Empire.
Amazon’s current roster of UK scripted content includes notable series such as Robin Wright’s The Girlfriend, Sophie Turner’s Steal, Harlan Coben’s Lazarus, and Riz Ahmed’s Bait. Additionally, upcoming projects include the police thriller Dirty from Matt Charman and an adaptation of Chloe Walsh’s Boys Of Tommen.
Gemma Brandler and Punit Mattoo, who are UK scripted commissioners, will report to Jones in his new role.
In her message to the Amazon MGM Studios International Originals team, Clemens emphasized the company’s strong commitment to the UK market. “Oliver is a seasoned scripted executive with a proven track record in developing premium international content,” she stated. “This appointment underscores our continued investment in world-class UK scripted programming as we expand our slate for UK and global audiences.”
Reflecting on his move, Jones expressed his gratitude for his time at Apple, stating, “It has been a privilege to work alongside my brilliant colleagues … It’s always a tough decision to leave a job I love, but the time is right to come back home and start a new adventure. Amazon MGM Studios’ commitment and momentum in telling ambitious, provocative, premium stories means it couldn’t be a more exciting moment to be joining Nicole and her phenomenal team.”
