Amazon Refreshes Fire TV Interface to Make Searching Easier and Introduces Ember Artline Lifestyle TV
Amazon is revamping the Fire TV interface to streamline the search experience for viewers seeking streaming content. The changes are aimed at reducing search time and enhancing overall usability.
In conjunction with the new user interface, the tech giant will introduce the Ember Artline, a “lifestyle TV” designed primarily for displaying artwork and photos.
The announcements were made on Monday as CES, the annual technology trade show, gains momentum in Las Vegas. While the main exhibits commence on Tuesday, a full schedule of panel discussions and corporate events was held on Monday.
According to Amazon’s blog post, the Fire TV upgrade is intended to be “cleaner, faster, and better organized, helping customers spend less time searching and more time watching.” The company referenced research from Nielsen’s Gracenote, revealing that U.S. streaming viewers now spend an average of 12 minutes searching for content—up from 10.5 minutes in 2023.
With the revamped Fire TV, users can expect a “faster and easier” process for finding movies, TV shows, sports, news, and live content. The blog illustrated this with an example of a user browsing for movies, where titles from all installed apps will be displayed. Amazon’s research indicates that search speed could improve by 20% to 30% with the new interface.
The number of apps that Fire TV users can pin to the home screen will increase significantly, from six to twenty.
The Ember Artline features a 4K QLED display with a matte screen just 1.5 inches thick, designed to reduce glare while showcasing art and photography.
This television also includes far-field microphones for voice commands and boasts an “ambient experience” that activates as individuals enter or exit the room. Owners will receive over 2,000 pieces of free art, and an AI feature will offer recommendations based on the room’s style and decor.
