Amanda Seyfried stands firm on her recent comments regarding Charlie Kirk, asserting she is “not f—— apologizing” for labeling him “hateful” following his death.
Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old right-wing political commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed during an event at Utah State University on September 10.
In the aftermath of Kirk’s death, Seyfried, 40, posted on Instagram, stating, “He was hateful.” This remark prompted backlash, to which she responded in a follow-up post on September 17, where she sought to clarify her views.
“We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity,” she wrote. “I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and unimaginable. No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”
She added that she aimed to provide clarity on a misunderstood comment, emphasizing the importance of spirited discourse. “I don’t want to add fuel to a fire,” she remarked.
In a recent interview with Who What Wear, Seyfried reiterated her refusal to apologize, saying, “I’m not f—— apologizing for that. I mean, for f—- sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course.”
She expressed gratitude for social media, explaining that it allowed her to reclaim her voice. “I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized—which is what people do,” she added.
Kirk was in the middle of his “Prove Me Wrong” event as part of his American Comeback Tour when he was shot on September 10.

Tyler Robinson is facing several charges, including aggravated murder, in connection with Kirk’s death. The 22-year-old allegedly expressed to his parents that he couldn’t go to jail and wanted “to end it,” according to an indictment dated September 16.
Sergeant Ray Ormond of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Robinson is currently housed in a “Special Housing Unit” and is under a suicide prevention protocol, which requires inmates to wear a special smock at all times.
“Our special housing unit does include being on a special watch protocol that includes more supervision and wearing the above smock,” Ormond noted.
In the wake of Kirk’s passing, his wife Erica Kirk has taken over his responsibilities at Turning Point USA.
