Amanda Seyfried Shares Her Passion for a Third ‘Mamma Mia!’ Movie: “I’ll Keep Pushing for It”
Amanda Seyfried Advocates for a Third Installment of Mamma Mia!
Fans of the beloved film Mamma Mia! have long clamored for a third installment, but few are as passionate as star Amanda Seyfried. In a recent interview with People, Seyfried expressed her commitment to championing the sequel. “I’m going to keep campaigning for that movie until I’m blue in the face,” she stated.
Seyfried shared her vision for a potential storyline, suggesting that the third film could explore her character Sophie’s new journey into motherhood. “Oh, with kids. I mean, I love being a mother,” she remarked. “I love playing a mother, and I would love to dive into the curiosities of motherhood and raising children on a Greek island—just like [Meryl Streep’s] Donna did with Sophie.”
She continued, “I think that would be really interesting. I have no idea where the story is going to go, but I know there’s going to be a lot of singing and dancing.”
Recently, Seyfried also addressed fan interest in the possibility of Sabrina Carpenter joining the cast. While acknowledging that viewers may experience “a little bit of fatigue with sequels,” she affirmed her eagerness, stating she would embark on Mamma Mia! 3 “in a heartbeat.”
The original film, released in 2008 and based on the Tony-nominated jukebox musical, follows Sophie as she prepares for her wedding at her mother’s hotel on a picturesque Greek island. Unbeknownst to Donna, Sophie has invited three of her mother’s former flames—Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård—hoping to uncover her father’s identity.
The sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, released in 2018, shifts between past and present. It delves into a young Donna’s romance with the three men in 1979 as she arrives on the island and features Sophie, played by Seyfried, attempting to reopen her late mother’s hotel, aided by a surprise visit from her grandmother Ruby, portrayed by Cher.
As the anticipation for a potential third film grows, Seyfried’s enthusiasm seems to resonate with fans eager to revisit the sun-soaked, ABBA-inspired world they adore.
