Alicia Silverstone Reached Out to Her Ex-Husband for Help with Her Critics Choice Awards Dress
Alicia Silverstone made a stunning appearance on the red carpet at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards, but faced a humorous challenge later in the evening—struggling to remove her dress. In an Instagram video shared on January 9, the 49-year-old actress humorously exclaimed, “We can’t get this dress off. What do we do? I’ve got Bear and Bear’s dad trying to help me get out of this dress, and I can’t get out of it.”
Silverstone shares a son, Bear, with ex-husband Christopher Jarecki, whom she was married to from 2005 until their divorce in 2018. The pair continues to co-parent amicably, living in the same neighborhood.
After returning home from the awards, Silverstone reached out to Jarecki for assistance. He playfully remarked, “She’s got a big butt,” which led to laughter from Silverstone.
At the Critics Choice Awards, Silverstone dazzled in a fitted, strapless silver gown designed by Stella McCartney, complemented by jewelry from Le Vian and A. Jaffe. She attended the event to support her film “Bugonia,” which received three nominations.
Expressing her admiration for director Yorgos Lanthimos, Silverstone told Good Morning America on the red carpet, “I was thrilled to work with Yorgos about seven years ago on Killing of a Sacred Deer, and I just am a huge fan of his. He’s such an extraordinary artist, so I was so happy he asked me to participate in this one, Bugonia.”
She added, “He’s brilliant; it was so much fun, and I felt a perfect amount of excitement and fear about the role. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are so extraordinary and lovely. It was just a dream, really.”
Silverstone effectively balances her acting career with co-parenting Bear. Reflecting on their relationship, she shared, “I’m really lucky that we have such a good … we’re so good at co-parenting with each other. We both see [our son] Bear unless I’m away shooting something where he can’t be there, but he usually comes with me anyway.”
According to Silverstone, she and Jarecki speak daily about Bear’s schedule and well-being. “There’s no way to tell anybody how to make their relationship work or their thing work. It just works for us. We both love our son, right? We both want to be with our son and we both love each other too,” she explained.
In a 2021 update, Silverstone noted that Bear did not show interest in pursuing acting, saying, “He’s happy with doing a bunch of other things, so we’ll see. But right now, it’s not in his mind.” Nevertheless, he enjoys some of Silverstone’s iconic roles, especially appreciating “The Baby-Sitters Club” reboot.
Silverstone highlighted, “He might love Clueless too. I’d have to ask him, but he’s definitely into The Baby-Sitter’s Club. … He needs to watch Braceface, that’s the show I produced, an animated show for kids.”
