Alan Ritchson Hosts New Survival Competition Series for Netflix from Bunim/Murray
EXCLUSIVE: Alan Ritchson is set to explore the wilderness in a new unscripted series for Netflix.
The star of Netflix’s War Machine and Amazon’s Reacher will lead a survival competition series, marking his debut in unscripted programming.
This new venture comes more than two decades after Ritchson made a splash on season three of American Idol, where he performed Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life.”
In this untitled series, Ritchson, an avid survivalist and experienced outdoorsman, will guide a group of notable creators and personalities in a high-stakes challenge. The premise explores whether participants can adapt and thrive without the comforts of modern life, or if they will succumb to the pressure. The show promises to feature a dynamic mix of competition, alliances, and clashing egos, testing each player’s self-reliance, problem-solving abilities, and grit.
Netflix has found notable success in the survival genre with shows like Outlast, produced by Jason Bateman, which is set in the Alaskan wilderness and has been renewed for a third season. The streaming platform also boasts a strong reception for the History channel series Alone, which recently premiered its eleventh season.
The series is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, known for acclaimed shows such as MTV’s The Challenge, Hulu’s Vanderpump Villa, and Lifetime’s The Chrisleys: Back To Reality. The company previously produced the survival series I Survived Bear Grylls for TBS.
Ritchson serves as an executive producer alongside Julie Pizzi, Rupert Dobson, Gayani Wanigaratne, and Jay Bienstock, who also acts as showrunner. John Faratzis is involved as a co-executive producer.
Currently, Ritchson is preparing for the fourth season of Reacher, which he also executive produces. He recently featured in the film War Machine and is set to appear alongside Owen Wilson in The Runner, directed by Scott Waugh, as well as in the holiday family comedy The Man With The Bag alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. His credits also include the action-thriller Motor City with Shailene Woodley and Ben Foster, and the buddy comedy Playdate with Kevin James. Ritchson is represented by Range, WME, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
