Aimee Lou Wood’s BBC Comedy ‘Film Club’ Won’t Be Back for Season Two
EXCLUSIVE: Aimee Lou Wood’s romantic comedy series Film Club has officially concluded.
The decision to wrap up the series was mutual. Wood expressed a desire to focus on other writing projects, while the BBC was open to moving on from the show.
Film Club was a personal endeavor for Wood, co-written with her former drama school friend Ralph Davis. The series featured Wood as Evie, who launches a film club for weekly escapes filled with imagination in her mother’s garage, enjoying quality time with her best friend Noa, played by Nabhaan Rizwan.
Evie’s unique family dynamics were also central to the story, including her devoted single mother Suz (Suranne Jones), sister Izzie (Liv Hill), boyfriend Josh (Adam Long), and the annoyingly persistent neighbor Callum (Owen Cooper). The role brought Wood a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress.
The series marked the screenwriting debut for both Wood and Davis, who has appeared in productions such as House of the Dragon and Big Boys. Anna Jordan, known for One Day, contributed to episode four of the six-part series.
Produced by the UK division of Gaumont, which was also behind Lupin and Obsession, the show received support from ZDFneo in Germany. Producers included Stella Merz of Gentleman Jack and Hannah Pescod of The Lovers, while Catherine Morshead, recognized for Daddy Issues and The Full Monty, directed. Executive producers included Alison Jackson, Jamie Jackson, and Wood for Gaumont, with Nawfal Faizullah representing the BBC. International sales were handled by Fremantle.
The BBC has declined to comment on the series’ conclusion.
