A24 and HBO Max Renew Partnership Before ‘Marty Supreme’ Streaming Launch
HBO Max and A24 have secured a multi-year renewal of their pay-1 distribution deal, which will allow subscribers access to upcoming titles including Marty Supreme, among other notable films.
In the competitive landscape of streaming, pay-1 agreements have emerged as significant factors, particularly during awards season. Major vertical deals, such as Universal and Focus Features titles moving to NBCUniversal’s Peacock and Searchlight releases launching on Hulu, illustrate the importance of these arrangements. Notably, a 2021 deal between Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment highlighted the potential of such collaborations, culminating in Kpop Demon Hunters, which became Netflix’s most successful film release.
The renewed partnership not only features Marty Supreme, A24’s highest-budget title expected to become one of its most profitable, but also includes The Drama starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, alongside The Moment featuring Charli xcx.

In the announcement of the renewal, the companies revealed that under the prior agreement, half of A24’s pay-1 titles ranked among HBO Max’s top 10 movies within their first two weeks in 2025. Additionally, nearly 70% of HBO Max viewers who watched an A24 film returned for an average of four additional titles from the studio.
The deal will allow HBO Max subscribers access to an extensive library of A24 films throughout its duration. Anticipated releases include The Backrooms featuring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, and Mark Duplass; The Death of Robin Hood with Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer; Enemies starring Jeremy Allen White and Austin Butler; How to Make a Killing led by Glen Powell; Pillion featuring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling; and Primetime with Robert Pattinson.
“A24 has been an incredible partner, bringing a slate of talented creative voices and an engaged audience base to the platform,” said Royce Battleman, Executive Vice President of Global Content Acquisitions for HBO Max. “Their bold storytelling perfectly complements the distinct programming offered on HBO Max.”
In addition to A24 titles, HBO Max showcases a wide array of films from Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, Turner Classic Movies, and Studio Ghibli. A notable 2025 for Warner Bros. includes major awards contenders such as One Battle After Another, Sinners, and Weapons, alongside blockbusters like Superman and Minecraft.
