A Sneak Peek at ‘Verity’: Exploring the Writing Journey at CinemaCon
Amazon MGM Studios Debuts First Look at ‘Verity’ at CinemaCon
On Wednesday, Amazon MGM Studios unveiled a first look at Verity, the film adaptation of the bestselling psychological thriller by Colleen Hoover, author of It Ends with Us, during CinemaCon.
Directed by Michael Showalter, who previously collaborated with Anne Hathaway on the romantic comedy The Idea of You, Verity centers on Lowen Ashleigh, played by Dakota Johnson. Lowen is a struggling writer tasked with completing a successful book series after its original author, Verity Crawford, portrayed by Hathaway, becomes incapacitated. As Lowen navigates the Crawford household, she becomes involved with Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and uncovers an unsettling manuscript that may reveal disturbing truths about the author.
During the event in Las Vegas, attendees were shown an exclusive trailer that depicted the eerie dynamics between the characters. In one scene, Lowen is visibly shocked by Verity’s condition, asking, “Can she speak? Does she know what’s going on?” As she prepares her notes, Jeremy reassures her that he would want someone respected to take over Verity’s series—an implication that raises questions about trust and hidden secrets.
The film also features performances by Ismael Cruz Córdova and Brady Wagner and is set to hit theaters on October 2.
Verity is part of a wave of adaptations based on Hoover’s novels, following the success of Sony’s It Ends with Us, which grossed over $351 million globally. Despite a legal dispute involving key creatives Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the film achieved significant box office success. Paramount also produced Regretting You, another Hoover adaptation, which earned more than $90 million. Additionally, Universal released Reminders of Him, featuring Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, which garnered over $84 million since its debut last month.
