Larry Ellison’s children have embraced their father’s entrepreneurial spirit in their film careers.
The Oracle co-founder welcomed a son, David, in January 1983, followed by his daughter, Megan, born three years later during his three-year marriage to Barbara Boothe. Their marriage ended in divorce in April 1986, shortly after Megan’s birth.
In Matthew Symonds’ 2003 book, Softwar: An Intimate Portrait of Larry Ellison and Oracle, Larry expressed a commitment to co-parent their children amicably. “My personality fundamentally changed as a result of me becoming a father,” he reflected. “Being a father made me sensitive to the needs and feelings of my kids.” He emphasized the importance of creating a nurturing environment for them.
Both David and Megan have established significant careers in Hollywood, working as film producers and launching their own production companies. Megan’s Annapurna Pictures has produced critically acclaimed films, including Her and American Hustle, which earned her two Academy Award nominations for Best Picture in the same year. David’s company, Skydance Media, merged with Paramount in 2025, where he now serves as CEO and chairman.

Born on January 9, 1983, David was named after his uncle, David Linn. The couple welcomed him just 11 months before their marriage, as noted in Softwar. Following their parents’ divorce, David and Megan moved with their mother to a horse farm in Woodside, California.
Despite having a privileged upbringing, which included extensive travel and luxury toys, David shared in a 2015 GQ interview that his mother kept him grounded with modest allowances in exchange for chores.
Initially working in his father’s company during summers, David transitioned to filmmaking. He dropped out of college in 2006 to finance his first film, Flyboys, in which he starred alongside James Franco. Director Tony Bill remarked on David’s humility during the production, noting surprise among the cast upon learning of his identity.

Although Flyboys did not perform well financially, David persisted in the entertainment field, establishing Skydance Media, which has produced major blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick and the Mission: Impossible series. He expressed his passion for filmmaking to GQ, stating his desire to create a space for making beloved movies.
David merged Skydance with Paramount in August 2025, assuming the roles of CEO and chairman. In 2011, he married actress and singer Sandra Lynn Modic, whom he met on the set of Hole in One. They have two children together.
Megan Ellison, 39

Born on January 31, 1986, Megan was a toddler when her parents divorced. Raised by Barbara, she and David developed a passion for film, gathering a collection of over 3,000 VHS tapes. Their favorite movies, including Jurassic Park and Back to the Future, were viewed repeatedly.
“After one viewing, [David would] be able to quote the whole thing back verbatim,” Megan recalled in GQ. “I was always so blown away by it.”
Following in David’s footsteps, Megan also dropped out of college to pursue filmmaking, establishing Annapurna Pictures in 2011, a name inspired by a hiking trail she trekked in Nepal. In 2014, she made history as the first woman to earn two Academy Award nominations for Best Picture with her films Her and American Hustle.
After a brief hiatus from Hollywood in 2019, Megan returned to produce the animated film Nimona, sharing her personal connection to the story. “I needed this movie when I was a kid,” she explained to The Hollywood Reporter.
Megan has largely remained out of the public eye and is known to be openly gay, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
