Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart Celebrate Their Son’s Achievements
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart are beaming with pride over their son, Liam Flockhart Ford, who recently graduated from college. Liam, 25, was adopted by Flockhart in 2001, shortly before she began dating the legendary actor.
Ford, who had already raised four children, embraced the role of a father figure in Liam’s life. Their family dynamic became formalized in 2010 when Ford adopted Liam following his marriage to Flockhart.
In a 2008 interview with Reader’s Digest, Ford expressed gratitude for the arrival of Liam and how both he and Flockhart brought joy into his life. "She’s brought a child back into my home," he reflected. "It’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child’s growing up, which is always an endless springtime."
Despite being Hollywood A-listers, Ford and Flockhart have maintained a private family life, choosing to raise Liam away from the public eye. The couple rarely speaks about him or shares images online. Nevertheless, Liam has appeared with his parents at various sporting events over the years.
Adoption and Family Background
Liam was born on January 1, 2001, in San Diego. “I am overjoyed that I have been blessed with a beautiful and healthy son," Flockhart stated at the time of his adoption, describing herself as "enchanted" and "awe-struck." At that point, she was filming the final season of her acclaimed show, Ally McBeal.
After marrying Flockhart in 2010, Ford formally adopted Liam, who was around six to eight months old when they first met. Ford admitted in a subsequent interview that becoming a father again was unexpected, but ultimately fulfilling.
Liam joins a diverse family as the youngest child, with four older siblings: Ben and Willard from Ford’s first marriage to Mary Marquardt, and Malcolm and Georgia from his second marriage to Melissa Mathison.
Calista’s Commitment to Family
Following the end of Ally McBeal, Flockhart took a five-year hiatus from acting to focus on parenting. She later returned to the screen in Brothers & Sisters, but required a flexible schedule to balance work and family life.
"I just don’t want to give up that much time," Flockhart remarked about her priorities. She noted it was a fortunate position to be in, stating that she felt truly happy balancing her family and her career.
In a recent interview, Ford noted that Calista is returning to work after two decades devoted to raising Liam, expressing a desire to collaborate with her on future projects.
Liam’s Interests and Education
Athletically inclined, Liam grew up immersed in sports, often accompanying his parents to games. He has played baseball rather than pursuing a career in acting like his parents. Flockhart shared that his favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, inspired a creative Halloween costume when Liam dressed as a "Dodger dog."
Ford and Liam also seem to share a thrill-seeking nature; during a 2019 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ford recounted skydiving for the first time in New Zealand at Liam’s suggestion.
Achieving a significant milestone, Liam graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts in May 2023. Photographs from the ceremony captured proud moments, including Flockhart taking photos of Liam in his cap and gown, while Ford joined in celebrations.
The family was previously spotted together when Ford flew them to the campus for their son’s initial college drop-off in 2020, emphasizing their strong familial bonds amidst their high-profile lives.
