Reindeer Finds Its Way Back Home After Running Along 5 Freeway in Pacoima
Two Reindeer Cause Traffic Snarl on 5 Freeway in Pacoima
Two reindeer caused significant disruption on the 5 Freeway in Pacoima early Saturday morning, prompting a swift response from local authorities. One of the reindeer was struck by a vehicle but is expected to recover, according to LA Animal Services.
The animals, identified as "Cookie" and "Noel," reportedly escaped from their transport trailer and ventured onto the busy freeway around 6:30 a.m. The California Highway Patrol confirmed the unusual sighting as motorists experienced a sudden halt in traffic.
“It was quite a sight to see traffic come to a complete stop,” remarked Steven Bracamontes, who witnessed the chaotic scene while traveling southbound near the 118 ramp toward San Fernando. “I noticed two Caltrans trucks swerving across lanes, which is when I realized there was a reindeer on the roadway. My first thought was that Santa had lost one of his helpers.”
Bracamontes captured video footage of the incident, during which the reindeer began approaching oncoming traffic, heightening concerns for their safety. Fortunately, LA Animal Services quickly intervened and safely captured the animals, later reuniting them with their owner.
The unusual occurrence serves as a reminder that holiday magic sometimes spills onto the highways, bringing both excitement and unexpected challenges for travelers.
