Video Captures Nick Reiner Just Before His Arrest in Connection with Murders
Surveillance Footage Released of Nick Reiner Before Arrest on Murder Charges
LOS ANGELES – New surveillance footage obtained by FOX 11 reveals Nick Reiner moments before his arrest on suspicion of murder. The footage, recorded at a gas station near the University of Southern California on the evening of December 14, captures Reiner in a dark outfit and a red backpack just before police took him into custody.
Nick Reiner, who has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, is currently being held without bail.
In the video, which was recorded around 9 p.m., Reiner is seen entering and exiting the gas station multiple times before purchasing Gatorade. Investigators state that his arrest followed shortly after this footage was captured, approximately 14 miles from the crime scene.
The background of the case is troubling. Rob and Michele Reiner were found deceased in their Brentwood home by their daughter, Romy. At the time police arrived, Nick was not present, leading investigators to believe he had left the residence after the alleged attacks. He was subsequently located and arrested in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park area.
In addition to the surveillance footage, police have released images of his arrest, courtesy of the LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Division.
New details have emerged regarding the events leading up to the murders. Sources indicate that Nick Reiner was involved in a heated argument with his father during a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien the night before. Witnesses described Nick’s behavior during that evening as "odd." Following the confrontation, he reportedly checked into a hotel in Santa Monica around 4 a.m., where staff claimed to have discovered blood in his shower and on his mattress.
Nick Reiner is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday.
