$2 Million Seized from Pasadena Clinic Amid Medicare Fraud Allegations
Pasadena Clinic Under Investigation for Alleged Medicare Fraud
A Pasadena wound clinic has come under scrutiny for allegedly submitting fraudulent claims to Medicare, prompting an investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ). On Tuesday, the DOJ revealed that the clinic, Expert Wound Care PC, is accused of billing for procedures that were never performed.
As part of the ongoing investigation, a federal court has approved a seizure of up to $2,039,792 from a Wells Fargo bank account associated with the clinic. This action signals a heightened focus on fraudulent practices within the healthcare sector in Southern California.
According to federal prosecutors, Expert Wound Care submitted more than $46 million in Medicare claims from September 2025 to April 2026, seeking reimbursement for skin substitutes and skin grafts. The clinic claimed to have treated 78 patients during this period. Medicare ultimately approved payments exceeding $34 million, as stated by the DOJ.
Investigators noted that the clinic’s requests for skin substitute grafts between July 2025 and March 2026 surpassed the national average by more than double. Furthermore, the clinic reportedly continued to escalate its Medicare billing, having billed the program for $2.6 million between October 2025 and February 2026. Of that amount, approximately $2 million was paid for grafts and skin graft application services provided to a single beneficiary.
The investigation was initiated after a representative from Wells Fargo alerted authorities that the clinic’s account had been flagged for possible fraud and would be temporarily frozen.
The seizure of funds comes at a time when the DOJ has labeled Southern California as a "high-risk environment" for healthcare fraud. This month, federal authorities arrested eight individuals in connection with defrauding Medicare and insurance companies. The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office has committed to intensifying efforts against healthcare fraud in collaboration with the DOJ’s National Fraud Enforcement Division.
Expert Wound Care PC has been operating in California since July, according to state records.
