Jeanne Herry’s film Garance captivated audiences at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, receiving an impressive 12-minute standing ovation following its screening, the longest and one of the most enthusiastic of the festival.
Co-stars Adèle Exarchopoulos, Sara Giraudeau, and Mathilde Roehrich were seen exchanging hugs as the applause continued unabated.

As a competition entry, Garance follows the journey of Exarchopoulos’s character, a working actress grappling with the challenges of her profession, including alcoholism, family tragedy, and love.
Garance marks Herry’s fourth feature as a director, following Elle L’Adore (2014), In Safe Hands (2018), and the critically acclaimed All Your Faces, for which Exarchopoulos won a César Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2024. Notably, Exarchopoulos was only 19 when she, along with co-star Léa Seydoux and director Abdellatif Kechiche, shared the Palme d’Or for Blue Is the Warmest Color.
Seydoux was present among the audience, also applauding her friend Exarchopoulos during the screening.
