Police Shoot Man Armed with Knife in Boyle Heights Incident
A man was shot by police early Saturday morning in Boyle Heights after allegedly charging at officers while wielding a knife, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on the 3000 block of Glenn Avenue shortly after 1:45 a.m. Callers indicated that a man armed with a knife had attacked someone at an apartment complex.
Upon arrival, police found the suspect outside the residence and attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, the man refused to comply with orders to drop the knife and instead charged at the officers, prompting them to open fire, as stated by the LAPD.
The individual was struck by a 40 mm foam round and received on-site medical attention before being transported to a nearby hospital. He is currently in stable condition; however, his name has not been disclosed. The knife used in the incident was recovered at the scene.
