Southern Section Baseball Playoffs: Friday’s Results
Friday marked the conclusion of the second round of the Southern Section baseball playoffs, delivering several exciting matchups across various divisions.
In Division 1, Pool A showcased an upset as #8 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated top-seeded Norco, winning 4-0. Additionally, #9 Ayala edged out #16 Maranatha with a close score of 7-6. Pool D saw #4 Orange Lutheran triumph over #5 Corona, 9-6, while #13 Corona Santiago bested #12 Etiwanda, finishing 8-4.
Pool C featured #6 St. John Bosco narrowly defeating #3 Sierra Canyon, 4-3, and #11 Cypress handily beating #14 Oaks Christian, 8-2. Meanwhile, Pool B concluded with a tight contest where #2 Harvard-Westlake prevailed over #10 Huntington Beach, 6-5, and #15 La Mirada secured a solid 9-2 win against #7 Temecula Valley.
In the first round of Division 3, Mira Costa triumphed over Arlington, 8-6, and Redondo Union secured a last-minute victory against Ridgecrest Burroughs, 8-7. Other notable results included Dos Pueblos defeating Burbank Burroughs, 14-8, and Edison taking down Damien, 5-1.
Division 5 showcased a series of impressive performances, with Citrus Valley narrowly winning over Paloma Valley, 2-1, and Irvine defeating Moreno Valley, 4-2. There were also decisive victories for Cathedral against Calvary Baptist, 4-2, and Quartz Hill, who dominated Tahquitz, 12-0.
Division 7 saw New Roads edge past Palmdale, 5-4, and North Torrance dominate Baldwin Park, 5-1. Grace achieved a commanding 6-0 victory over Beverly Hills, while Fontana narrowly outlasted Milken in a 13-12 thriller.
As for Division 9, Dunn delivered a stunning 16-4 win against Redlands Adventist Academy, while Lennox Academy defeated Santa Monica Pacifica Christian, 18-8. In a significant showcase, Temecula Prep steamrolled Pomona, achieving an impressive score of 25-1.
Looking Ahead: Tuesday’s Schedule
The playoffs continue with the third round set for Tuesday, featuring several key matchups across divisions. In Division 1, Norco is set to face Ayala, while Pool D will see Corona take on Corona Santiago. The schedule includes critical games for Division 2 through Division 9, highlighting the ongoing competitive spirit as teams vie for playoff success.
Upcoming Quarterfinals
All divisions will reach the quarterfinals on May 22, followed by semifinals on May 26, with final matches taking place on May 29-30.
