Long Beach Pride Festival Cancelled Over Permit Problems, City Reports
Long Beach Pride Festival Canceled Amid Permit Issues, Parade to Proceed
The Long Beach Pride Festival has been canceled following permit complications, city officials announced on Friday. Originally slated to commence at 5 p.m. that day, the three-day festival aimed to unite thousands in celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
Despite the festival’s cancellation, other scheduled Pride events, including the popular Pride Parade, are set to proceed as planned. The parade is scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m.
According to a statement from the city, “Unfortunately, one event, the Long Beach Pride Festival, will not be able to take place this year as sufficient information to safely permit the event has not been made available by the event organizers.”
The city attorney also issued a cease and desist letter to the festival organizers on Friday afternoon, citing that the necessary application materials and supporting documentation had not been submitted in a timely manner.
In response, Long Beach Pride’s president, Tonya Martin, asserted that all required paperwork was submitted punctually, though she refrained from commenting further on the city’s decision.
Organizers are now urging city officials to explore options that would allow the festival to return in the future.
This is a developing story; updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
