Taika Waititi’s Family Film ‘Fing!’ Becomes the Latest Addition for Emerging Buyer Angel
Angel Acquires U.S. Rights to Taika Waititi’s Family Film ‘Fing!’ Following Sundance Premiere
Angel has secured the U.S. distribution rights to Fing!, a family film directed by Taika Waititi, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. This acquisition marks the latest move by Angel, a company known for its audience-driven model, as it expands its portfolio of high-profile titles.
In the film, Waititi stars alongside Mia Wasikowska (Alice In Wonderland), Richard Roxburgh (Elvis), Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey), Blake Harrison (I Hate Suzie Too), Robyn Nevin (Sting), newcomer Iona Bell (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping), and Matt Lucas (Doctor Who), who lends his voice to the character Fing. The film is slated for a wide theatrical release in early 2027.
The plot follows Mr. and Mrs. Meek, played by Harrison and Wasikowska, who go to great lengths to keep their daughter, Myrtle (Bell), happy. When Myrtle demands a Fing, her parents embark on a dangerous jungle quest to secure the creature before a villainous animal park owner, The Viscount (Waititi), can claim it.
Jeffrey Walker directs Fing! from a screenplay penned by Emmy winner Kevin Cecil and three-time BAFTA winner David Walliams, based on Walliams’ original book. The film is a co-production between Australia and the UK, produced by Jo Sargent of King Bert Productions and Todd Fellman of Story Bridge Films. The executive producers include Walliams, Craig McMahon, Cecil, and several others.
AGC Studios co-financed Fing! and is handling worldwide sales. In Australia and New Zealand, Transmission Films will manage the theatrical release, while Stan will premiere it as an Original on SVOD. Sky Cinema will launch the film in the UK as a Sky Original, supported by funding from Elevate Production Finance and Bondit Media Capital.
Angel recently made headlines with additional acquisitions, including Andy Serkis’ Animal Farm, action-thriller Runner, and comedy Solo Mio featuring Kevin James. The company, which rebranded from Angel Studios last year, announced that its grassroots membership program has surpassed two million paying subscribers, allowing members to influence the projects the studio pursues.
David Fischer, Angel’s vice president of acquisitions, expressed enthusiasm for Fing!, stating, “Fing! is exactly the kind of fantastical, joy-filled adventure the Angel Guild was made to champion. When our community of families vote with this level of enthusiasm, we listen. We couldn’t be more excited to bring it to audiences across America alongside our partners at AGC Studios.”
Stuart Ford of AGC echoed this excitement, emphasizing the film’s charm and Angel’s proven reach within family audiences in the U.S.
