Gerard Butler Stars as a Sniper on a Mission to Protect His Family and Fans in the Upcoming Action-Thriller ‘The Nest’ at Cannes Market
Gerard Butler to Star in Upcoming Action-Thriller Set at World Cup
In an upcoming action-thriller produced by Thunder Road, known for its work on John Wick, Gerard Butler is set to take on the role of a sniper confronted with a dire challenge. He receives an anonymous threat over the radio and must work against the clock to save his family and 70,000 fans at the World Cup, the largest sporting event in the world.
Black Bear is initiating sales for this intriguing project at the Cannes market, where it is one of several packages projected in the $70-80 million range.
The film, based on a script by Aaron Benjamin and grounded in real-life operatives, is produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road, alongside Butler and Alan Siegel from G-BASE, as well as Steve Klinsky from Untravelled Worlds. Jon Hersh and Mahal Sourgose will serve as executive producers.
Production is slated to begin in early 2027, with a director currently in the selection process. CAA Media Finance is responsible for domestic distribution.
Butler has established himself as a reliable action star over the past decade, known for his roles in franchises such as Has Fallen, Greenland, Den of Thieves, and How to Train Your Dragon.
Scriptwriter Aaron Benjamin is recognized for his work on action thrillers. His feature script, The Zone, starring Paula Patton and directed by Wade Eastwood, is in development. He is also adapting his short story She Seems Nice into a thriller with Bread & Circuses Entertainment. Previously, he wrote Maverick, a biopic about John McCain’s experiences as a POW.
Butler is represented by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment, while Benjamin is represented by Verve and Night Drive Management.
