Hannah Einbinder Shares Her Thoughts on AI Creators: Why She Believes They Aren’t True Artists
Hannah Einbinder Critiques AI’s Impact on Hollywood During ‘Hacks’ Press Conference
As the fifth and final season of Hacks prepares to return to screens, actress Hannah Einbinder voiced her concerns regarding the role of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry. During a press conference for the HBO Max series, the four-time Golden Globe nominee expressed strong disapproval of generative AI technology, referring to its creators as “losers” who threaten the livelihoods of genuine creatives.
“The people who make this stuff are losers,” she stated, criticizing AI developers for lacking artistic talent. “They’re not artists. They’re not creative. And they’ve wanted their whole lives to be special. And they’re not special," she added, according to SlashFilm.
Einbinder continued to elaborate on her feelings, suggesting that AI creators are attempting to "rob real creative people of our gifts." She asserted, “You will never be cool. You guys suck. No one likes you,” emphasizing a divide between traditional artists and AI developers.
Co-creator of Hacks, Jen Statsky, echoed Einbinder’s sentiments, warning that while AI might streamline the creative process, it ultimately hampers the work of true artists. "In attempting to make the creative process ‘easier’ with AI, creatives will suffer while execs continue to profit,” she stated.
“I wish that I believed that it was in better hands, but I don’t,” Statsky remarked, highlighting the need for protective measures to preserve the integrity of art and safeguard livelihoods.
The fifth season of Hacks is set to premiere on April 9 on HBO Max, continuing the journey of Einbinder’s character, Ava Daniels, alongside comedy legend Deborah Vance, played by Jean Smart. Vance aims to make a comeback by headlining Madison Square Garden after being barred from performing due to a contract dispute.
