Woman Welcomes Healthy Baby Just Days After Finding Out She’s Pregnant
Bakersfield Woman Discovers Surprising Pregnancy After 17 Years of Trying
In a remarkable turn of events, a Bakersfield family welcomed a baby boy whose pregnancy unfolded under extraordinary circumstances. Suze Lopez, 41, was taken by surprise when she learned that her child was developing outside her uterus, obscured by a large ovarian cyst.
According to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the birth of Lopez’s son is being hailed as a “medical miracle.” Just days before giving birth, Lopez discovered her pregnancy—one that had gone unnoticed due to the unusual location of the baby, hidden behind a significant ovarian tumor.
“Because of the large ovarian cyst that had been growing for years, it could have been a false positive, even ovarian cancer,” Lopez stated. “I was used to very irregular periods and some abdominal discomfort. I could not believe that after 17 years of praying and trying for a second child, that I was actually pregnant.”
On the third day after her pregnancy revelation, Lopez was admitted to Cedars-Sinai following abdominal pain. It was then that healthcare providers diagnosed her with an extraordinarily rare abdominal ectopic pregnancy.
“Turns out the mass was not growing; it was the baby growing in her abdomen behind the mass, pushing everything out,” explained Dr. John Ozimek, medical director of Labor and Delivery. He noted that a pregnancy developing this far outside the uterus is almost unheard of.
Fortunately, Lopez’s delivery involved a team of approximately 30 medical experts. The procedure began with the successful removal of the cyst, allowing for the safe birth of baby Ryu Lopez.
Both mother and son are reportedly healthy. Neonatologist Dr. Sara Dayanim expressed her hopes for the baby’s future, saying, “I hope that he realizes his special place in this world. Like from being born, he has defied all odds.”
