Krysten Ritter to Produce and Star in New Series Inspired by Her Book ‘Retreat,’ in Collaboration with the Team Behind ‘The Flight Attendant’
EXCLUSIVE: Krysten Ritter has partnered with writer-producer Steve Yockey, known for his work on The Flight Attendant and Dead Boy Detectives, along with Berlanti Productions to develop a series adaptation of her novel, Retreat. Ritter is set to serve as an executive producer and intends to star in the project, which is currently being pitched to networks.
The adaptation is being produced by Warner Bros Television, where both Yockey and Berlanti Productions hold overall deals. The studio has acquired Ritter’s book for Yockey to adapt and Berlanti Productions to bring to life.
Retreat is described as a darkly comedic thriller that follows Liz Dawson—a chameleon-like grifter—who finds herself in a precarious situation. Cornered into assuming the identity of a wealthy deceased woman in Punta Mita, Mexico, Liz navigates a sun-bleached mystery while desperately trying to maintain her ruse, as unexplained deaths begin to unfold around her.
The project shares similarities with another critically acclaimed dark comedy featuring a female lead, The Flight Attendant, which was also developed by Yockey and produced by Berlanti Productions for Warner Bros. TV.

Kelley’s limited series Love & Death for HBO Max and the Netflix film Nightbooks. Retreat, which is set to be published in 2025, is Ritter’s second novel, following her 2017 psychological thriller Bonfire.
Steve Yockey has received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for The Flight Attendant. He also served as the creator and showrunner for the Netflix series Dead Boy Detectives, based on the Vertigo/DC Comics publications.
