Security Footage Shows Young Bear Exploring Claremont Kitchen
Bear Makes Unwelcome Entrance into Claremont Home
CLAREMONT, Calif. — A young bear surprised a homeowner in Claremont early Thursday morning by entering her home through an open kitchen window. The incident underscores the importance of securing residences in areas inhabited by wildlife.
Homeowner Anju Kapoor discovered the bear’s visit while preparing her morning tea, only to find her kitchen in disarray. Initially attributing the chaos to large squirrels, she investigated further by reviewing her security footage, which revealed the true culprit.
The bear gained entry after Kapoor had left the kitchen window open the night before while venting the room during cooking. Upon inspection, she found “lots of mess” with items scattered throughout the kitchen.
Reflecting on her experience, Kapoor expressed her familiarity with the local bear population, noting that while she typically takes precautions, the oversight allowed the bear easy access to her home. "I saw there was lots of mess, everything was thrown around, and it was very unusual," she recounted. “It was kind of surreal, interesting to see a bear in my kitchen.”
Although Kapoor remained calm during the situation, she acknowledged that the outcome might have been much different had she walked in on the bear. “If I had walked in here and saw a bear, I would be very scared… it’s still an interesting little story kind of thing,” she added.
In light of this encounter, Kapoor emphasized the importance of securing ground-floor windows and doors, especially at night or during food preparation. She remarked that closing the window is now something she will “never forget to do.”
