Chappell Roan Speaks Out About Personal Boundaries While in Paris: ‘Please Stop Following Me’
Pop Star Chappell Roan Calls Out Boundary Violations in Paris
Chappell Roan took to social media this week to shed light on her experiences with invasive fans and photographers in Paris. The pop singer documented an overwhelming encounter on her phone, expressing her frustration about being treated as anything less than a person.
In a video shared by an onlooker on March 9, Roan can be seen filming herself while a crowd of people shouts at her. "I’m just trying to go to dinner, and I’ve asked these people several times to get away from me," she states while focusing the camera on the crowd surrounding her.
“This person I’ve asked several times to go away, and they will not,” she adds, capturing an individual persistently requesting an autograph despite her clear discomfort. “They’re hiding their face, because they’re ashamed.”
Roan continues to address the crowd directly, emphasizing her need for personal space. “These are all the people that are completely disregarding my boundaries. All of you, I’m asking you kindly to please leave me alone and stop following me and harassing me. No, I’m not gonna sign. This is what it’s like, if you were wondering how it is.”
The Missouri native is in Paris for Fashion Week, having attended runway shows for prominent designers such as Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen. This incident marks yet another instance where Roan has called attention to disruptive behaviors from fans, having previously confronted "predatory behavior" in early 2024.
Her experiences at awards shows have similarly drawn attention, where she publicly addressed photographers for yelling at her. “For someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying, and I yelled back,” Roan told Entertainment Tonight following one such encounter at the 2024 VMAs. “You don’t get to yell at me like that.”
While Roan has not released new music since last year, she achieved notable success with her hits "The Giver" and "The Subway," both landing on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2025. Her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Billboard has reached out to Roan’s representatives for further comment.
