Drew Lindo and Azie Tesfai Bring Nichole Chase’s ‘The Accidental Assassin’ to Television
EXCLUSIVE: TV Adaptation of "The Accidental Assassin" in Development
Drew Lindo, known for his work on Quantum Leap and Reign, is spearheading a television adaptation of Nichole Chase’s novel The Accidental Assassin, collaborating with Azie Tesfai of Supergirl. The project is being developed under Amazon MGM Studios.
The Accidental Assassin tells the intriguing story of Ava Dumont, a cautious individual whose life takes a dramatic turn in London when she crosses paths with Owen Walker, a professional assassin dealing with abandonment issues. Their unexpected partnership is marked by chaos and moral ambiguities as they navigate the challenges posed by an accidental hit.
Lindo will take on multiple roles for the series, serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, while Tesfai will also write and executive produce. They will be joined by Frank Spotnitz, known for The X-Files and The Man in the High Castle, alongside Adrian Banyard from Black Mirror.
Chase’s The Accidental Assassin is the inaugural installment of “The Assassins” series. A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Chase has published over fourteen works, including novels and short stories, and is represented by MGMT Entertainment and Rebecca Friedman Literary.
Currently, Lindo is a co-executive producer on the Amazon/MGM series Stargate and previously held the same role on NBC’s revival of Quantum Leap. His journey in television began on HBO’s Hung, and he has since contributed to several seasons of Reign and The 100 for The CW. Lindo is represented by Verve, Echo Lake Entertainment, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole LLP.
Tesfai has gained recognition for her role in Supergirl, becoming the first Ethiopian actor to portray a superhero on screen. In the show’s final season, she co-wrote an episode and has been active in developing her own projects. Her original pilot, The Chase, was sold to Universal Television for NBC, and she is currently working on various projects, including the scripted series Sheba and unscripted works with Amplify Pictures and Issa Rae’s Hoorae. Tesfai is represented by Untitled Entertainment, Kings Peak Entertainment, and Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan LLP.
