Tragic House Fire in Beverly Grove Claims Life of Elderly Man and Leaves His Wife Hospitalized
Elderly Man Dies in Beverly Grove House Fire; Wife Hospitalized
LOS ANGELES – An elderly man has died and his wife has been hospitalized following a house fire early Tuesday morning in the Beverly Grove neighborhood.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at a single-story home on North Crescent Heights Boulevard shortly after 4 a.m. Upon arrival, they encountered challenges due to metal security bars on the doors and windows, necessitating the use of rotary saws to reach the occupants.
Despite their efforts, the man, an octogenarian, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. His wife, also in her 80s, is reported to be in fair condition.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported that the house lacked working smoke alarms, which hindered the response to the emergency. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames within approximately 40 minutes.
While the interior of the home was described as cluttered, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials are also looking into whether the security bars complied with requirements for emergency release mechanisms.
The LAFD’s Arson Section has taken over the investigation, which will assess potential foul play.
