Lon Rosen to Lead Business Operations for the Lakers
As the NBA season approaches its critical final stretch, the Los Angeles Lakers have announced a significant leadership change. Lon Rosen will succeed Tim Harris as the president of business operations.
Rosen brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2012. His history with the Lakers dates back to his college years when he interned with the team, eventually becoming an executive in the 1980s.
“I have seen the impact that Lon has had in our industry,” said Jeanie Buss, governor and minority owner of the Lakers. “Over that time, I have learned that not only is Lon a great person, but he also has a deep understanding of both sports and entertainment and a true feel for where this business is headed.”
Tim Harris informed colleagues earlier this week that he would step down at the end of the current season. He played a crucial role in negotiating a landmark $3 billion, 20-year agreement with Charter Communications, which established Spectrum SportsNet for the Lakers in 2011.
In his new position, Rosen aims to navigate the evolving landscape of the sports business. “I’m beyond grateful to Jeanie and Mark for trusting me with this incredible opportunity,” he stated. “As everyone knows, the economics of the sports business are constantly changing – and they will continue to do so.”
Rosen emphasized the importance of supporting employees and partners while ensuring that the Lakers deliver an unparalleled experience to fans both in Los Angeles and around the world. He looks forward to collaborating with Jeanie, Rob, and the entire front-office team to achieve these goals.
