David Ramsey from Arrow Shares His Journey with Testicular Cancer Treatment
David Ramsey Reflects on Nearly a Decade of Health Struggles with Testicular Cancer
David Ramsey, known for his role in Arrow, recently shared his personal journey with health challenges stemming from testicular cancer, a battle that began nearly a decade ago. Speaking on the Inside of You podcast, Ramsey, who is now 54, recounted the early days of his diagnosis, revealing that doctors first identified the condition when he was just 28 years old. For almost ten years, he underwent "watch and advise" monitoring before ultimately pursuing surgery and chemotherapy eight years later.
“I’m a cancer survivor,” Ramsey declared during the episode. He had sought medical attention after noticing a significant size difference between his testicles while kickboxing. “I went to the doctor,” he explained, describing how the doctors initially detected a condition known as microlithiasis. “Anyone that’s kind of gone through testicular cancer will understand that. That’s present if there’s cancer but it can be present without cancer. So, they’re watching.”
After eight and a half years of monitoring, Ramsey revisited his doctor when one testicle enlarged to “the size of my fist.” Even though he reported no pain, medical professionals deemed it necessary to surgically remove the affected testicle and proceed with chemotherapy.
Reflecting on his experience, Ramsey expressed how his health struggles have shifted his perspective on life. “I feel like crap this morning but I can choose joy,” he said, emphasizing the resilience he has gained. "These are the cards. So, what are you going to do with it?” he added, highlighting his mental approach to adversity.
Through his candid discussion, Ramsey provides insight into both the physical and emotional challenges faced by cancer survivors, illustrating a journey marked by resilience and personal growth.
