Peacock’s ‘The Traitors’ Soars with 3.2 Billion Minutes Watched in Just One Month After Season 4 Launch
The Traitors Emerges as a Breakout Hit for Peacock
Peacock’s reality competition series, The Traitors, is rapidly establishing itself as a leading title for the streaming platform. Following its Season 4 premiere on January 8, the show ranked as Nielsen’s top original reality program for four consecutive weeks based on recent data from NBCUniversal.
From its debut through February 1, The Traitors garnered an impressive 3.2 billion minutes of viewing time on Peacock. This figure encompasses all available episodes, as Nielsen does not separate viewership by season. The buzz surrounding Season 4 appears to be significantly contributing to its popularity.
As tensions escalate among contestants, it is expected that viewer engagement will continue to grow as the season progresses towards its finale. According to first-party data from NBCU, Season 4 has experienced a remarkable 66% increase in its average minute audience compared to Season 3 over the initial 27 days of each episode’s release.
A crucial factor in this surge may be the show’s high co-viewing rates. Nielsen reports that The Traitors holds the distinction of being Peacock’s top unscripted title for co-viewership, with 56% of Season 4’s audience watching episodes with others.
In this season, contestants known as the Faithful are once again trying to identify the Traitors, who include notable personalities such as Lisa Rinna from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Candiace Dillard Bassett from Real Housewives of Potomac, and Rob Rausch from Love Island USA.
The Traitors is inspired by the Dutch series De Verraders, where contestants are divided into two groups: The Faithful and the Traitors. Host Alan Cumming selects the Traitors at the season’s start, allowing them to eliminate the Faithful one by one while remaining undercover. The Faithful must try to identify the Traitors during a roundtable discussion, where they vote to banish members from the game. If any Traitors survive until the end, they share the prize money; if all Traitors are eliminated, the winnings go to the Faithful.
New episodes of The Traitors premiere on Peacock every Thursday at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET.
