New Cast Members Join Indie Thriller ‘Grind’: David Zayas, Hari Nef, Ivy Wolk, and Run The Jewels’ Killer Mike and El-P
EXCLUSIVE: Writer-director Peter Collins Campbell has completed filming on Grind, a darkly comedic indie thriller featuring Jack Haven and Janeane Garofalo. The cast has expanded to include seven additional actors: David Zayas (Dexter), Hari Nef (Barbie), Ivy Wolk (Anora), hip-hop duo members Killer Mike and EL-P of Run the Jewels, Coral Peña (Task), and John Beckwith (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans).
The film, highlighted in reports last August, centers around Ricky (Haven), a Manhattan food delivery biker obsessed with hustle culture, who races to make enough money to cover his rent in a single night.
Produced by Bethany McHugh for Affects Next Day’s Work, the project also involves Matty Matheson, Ricky Staffieri, and Hannah Welever, who have joined forces to create Super Athletic Film Co., marking Grind as their inaugural feature. The film is co-produced with indie studio Revery, whose executive producers include Stacy Lorts, Sara Magness, Chrissy Lucas, and Davis Priestley. Philipp Engelhorn, Adam Harris Engelhard, Stephen Mastrocola, Luke Taylor, and Matthew Helderman from Buffalo 8 (Woman of the Hour, Loving Vincent) also play key roles in production.
Executive producer Davis Priestley remarked, “Grind is the kind of film that reminds you why independent cinema matters. It’s made with true independent spirit, fearless storytelling, and is rooted in human culture. Revery is incredibly proud to partner with this steadfast team of filmmakers on a project that embodies our ethos: make bold work, stay close to human truth, and build with collaborators who elevate lived experience.”
The various cast members are represented by notable agencies, including Buchwald, ATA Management, and Schreck Rose Dapello for Zayas; Gersh, Untitled Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman for Nef; UTA, Curate, and Brecheen Feldman Breimer for Wolk; WME for Killer Mike; Gang, Tyre, Ramer for EL-P; Luber Roklin Entertainment for Peña; and Innovative Artists and Brillstein Entertainment Partners for Beckwith.
