Matlock and Elsbeth Are Returning for New Seasons on CBS
CBS Renews ‘Matlock’ for Third Season and ‘Elsbeth’ for Fourth Season
CBS has officially confirmed the renewal of Matlock for its third season, alongside a fourth season for Elsbeth.
Matlock, developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, features Kathy Bates in the titular role as Madeline “Matty” Matlock. The skilled septuagenarian returns to the legal field at a prestigious law firm, leveraging her unassuming demeanor and sharp instincts to win challenging cases. Matty collaborates closely with senior attorney Olympia, played by Skye P. Marshall, who is committed to achieving justice. Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), is drawn to Matty and her unique capabilities.
The return of Jason Hodge to CBS, following his stint on FBI: Most Wanted, adds to the excitement of the upcoming season. Hodge will star alongside his real-life wife, Marshall, recognized for her outstanding performances.
Also joining the cast are Sarah Wright Olsen, portraying Gwen, an efficiency expert, and Henry Haber as Hunter, a younger associate. "The two new cast members brought such a completely different light, energy, and charisma to our storyline that I cannot wait for our audience to witness it," Urman shared about the additions.
Urman serves as an executive producer for the series, produced by CBS Studios, alongside Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, Kat Coiro, and Bates.
Elsbeth, inspired by the character Elsbeth Tascioni from The Good Wife and The Good Fight, stars Carrie Preston as the unconventional attorney collaborating with the NYPD to bring New York’s affluent murderers to justice. Wendell Pierce also features prominently as Captain Charles Wallace (C.W.) Wagner.
The show is set to introduce several guest stars in its third season, including Lindsey Normington, Jaime Pressly, and Stephen Colbert, among others. Notably, Sarah Steele will reprise her role as Marissa Gold, connecting to the larger universe of The Good Wife and The Good Fight.
Executive producers for Elsbeth include Robert King, Michelle King, Jonathan Tolins, Liz Glotzer, and others, with the Kings co-creating the series.
CBS made the announcements about the renewals along with other scripted series renewals, including Tracker, Fire Country Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and the NCIS franchise, as well as unscripted hits like Survivor and The Amazing Race.
