Cristin Milioti Teams Up with Glen Powell in Judd Apatow’s Upcoming Universal Comedy Set for February 2027 Release
Universal Pictures has announced that a new film starring Powell, featuring him as a country-western star experiencing a decline in his career, is set for release on February 5, 2027.
Apatow will produce the film through his long-standing overall deal at Universal, while Powell and Dan Cohen will produce via Barnstorm’s first-look agreement. Kevin Misher will also serve as a producer through Misher Films.

Erik Baiers, Senior EVP of Production Development at Universal, along with Jacqueline Garell, Director of Production Development, will oversee the project.
Both Powell and Apatow have established connections with Universal. Apatow’s relationship dates back to 2005, beginning with his acclaimed directorial debut, The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Since then, he has directed several successful comedies for the studio, including Knocked Up, Funny People, This Is 40, Trainwreck, and most recently, The King of Staten Island.
Powell’s association with Universal began with his prominent role in Twisters, which unexpectedly became the highest-grossing natural disaster film at the domestic box office, amassing $267.8 million in the U.S. and $372.3 million globally.
Although the project is a priority for the studio, Powell’s busy schedule has delayed the shoot, originally slated for this spring. The postponement, however, allowed Apatow to meet various top-tier talents for the role of Powell’s co-star. This led to the selection of Milioti, who has risen to the top of the studio’s list of female leads following her standout performance in The Penguin.
Misher has deep roots with Universal, having served as President of Production from 1996 to 2001. During his tenure, he supervised several critically acclaimed films, including Erin Brockovich, The Fast and the Furious, Meet the Parents, and The Mummy. He later established Misher Films, which has produced a variety of projects over the past two decades, including Fighting With My Family, Coming 2 America, and You People.
In addition to The Penguin, Milioti recently voiced a character in Netflix’s animated film In Your Dreams, co-starring with Simu Liu and Craig Robinson. The film, which has been nominated for a Critics Choice Award, follows siblings who magically enter the realm of dreams to find The Sandman. Originally released in theaters in November, the film is now available for streaming on Netflix.
Milioti’s upcoming projects include a role opposite Topher Grace in the horror film Buddy, directed by Casper Kelly, which centers on a group of children attempting to escape from a kids’ television show. The film will debut at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22. She has also recently completed filming the pilot for FX’s drama series Seven Sisters, which depicts a tight-knit family facing unspoken secrets following the mysterious communications received by one of the sisters.
Milioti is represented by UTA and the Lede Company, alongside Jackoway Austen.
