Billie Eilish Speaks Out Against ICE Following Minneapolis Shooting
Billie Eilish is utilizing her platform to voice opposition to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which has faced intensified scrutiny following the fatal shooting of a Minnesota woman earlier this week.
On Friday, January 9, just two days after 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE officer during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, the pop star shared a series of posts condemning the organization. Her first post featured a graphic branding ICE a “federally funded and supported terrorist group,” with the creator highlighting the agency’s role in “tearing apart families, terrorizing citizens, and now murdering innocent people.”
In her second post, Eilish reshared a call for the abolition of ICE, including a list of 32 individuals who reportedly died in ICE custody last year. A third post urged U.S. citizens to contact their Congressional representatives, demanding defunding of ICE and immediate arrest and charges against the officer involved in Good’s death.
Billboard has reached out to the White House and the Department of Homeland Security for comments regarding these events.
Since the start of the Trump administration, ICE has faced polarizing reactions, but backlash has surged following the incident in Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security, along with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, claimed that Good was attempting to run over agents with her vehicle prior to the shooting and that the officer acted in self-defense. However, widely circulated video evidence suggests that Good was actually driving in the opposite direction at the time.
Even Trump found it challenging to address the situation after viewing the video of the shooting during a meeting in the Oval Office with a New York Times reporter present. “Well … I … the way I look at it … it’s a terrible scene,” the twice-impeached former president remarked. “I think it’s horrible to watch. No, I hate to see it.”
Eilish has consistently voiced her opposition to Trump’s policies, publicly endorsing his 2024 opponent, Kamala Harris. Prior to her recent statements, the nine-time Grammy winner had also criticized ICE raids in her home city of Los Angeles.
