Olivia Rodrigo Shares the Song She’ll Always Include in Her Concerts

Olivia Rodrigo has affirmed the lasting impact of her debut single, stating it will remain a staple in her concert performances.
On the five-year anniversary of her breakout hit “Drivers License,” Rodrigo paid tribute to the ballad that propelled her to fame in 2021. “This song has totally changed my life in ways I still can’t totally wrap my head around,” she wrote on Instagram on January 8. “I’m forever grateful for this magical chapter.”
She expressed her excitement for the future, saying, “I can’t wait to scream red lights stop signs with u guys at every concert I play for the rest of my life!”—a nod to the lyrics of the song, which spent eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.
When “Drivers License” was released, Rodrigo was just 17, making her the youngest artist to debut at number one on the Hot 100. Reflecting on her early career, she shared, “Looking back at these pics I feel like I look like a baby but it also feels like just yesterday lol.”
To commemorate the anniversary, Rodrigo unveiled a cover of “Drivers License” performed by David Byrne. In a follow-up post, she expressed her admiration, calling him one of her “all-time heroes,” and revealed that she “actually cried” when she heard his version. She previously collaborated with Byrne during her 2025 Governors Ball performance, where they covered “Burning Down the House.”
Rodrigo announced that Byrne’s cover is the first in a series of reimagined tracks from her debut album “SOUR,” which turns five this year. “SOUR is turning 5 years old this year! and to celebrate, i’m so excited to announce an upcoming series of reimagined SOUR covers from some of my favorite artists ever,” she wrote.
While Rodrigo cherishes “Drivers License,” she acknowledged in a previous interview with The Los Angeles Times that there are some songs in her catalog she no longer feels a strong connection to. “People get so sad because it’ll be their favorite song,” she noted. “But I just feel like I’ve grown out of some of them.”
