Zootopia 2 Rakes in $133.2M Worldwide in Just Two Days, Making a Splash in China
Friday Update: Zootopia 2 Soars at the Box Office
Walt Disney Animation’s Zootopia 2 is making waves, amassing an estimated global box office total of $133.2 million through Thursday. This figure includes $59.2 million generated in North America and $74 million from international markets over its first two days. The film debuted in 17 markets on Wednesday, with an additional 28 locations coming online Thursday.
China plays a crucial role in this international success. The market, often unpredictable, has welcomed the film enthusiastically, marking Zootopia 2 with the largest opening day for a U.S. animated movie ever. By Friday, the film was projected to add another estimated $40 million in China, bringing its three-day total to over $94 million, with expectations for strong ticket sales continuing into the weekend. Maoyan, a market analysis firm, has raised its lifetime forecast to RMB 3.2 billion, equivalent to $450 million.
The film’s opening performance underscores that the original’s success was not a one-time event. Significant achievements for Zootopia 2 include strong debuts in nearly all international markets, with record launch days for animated titles in France, Germany, and Italy, all occurring in 2025.
On Thursday, Zootopia 2 secured the top spot in Latin America, achieving an impressive 82% market share. Notably, Mexico’s opening day earnings of $1.6 million rank as the third highest in Walt Disney Animation history, behind Moana 2 and Frozen 2.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Zootopia 2 also debuted at No. 1 across all markets on Thursday, with Australia reporting figures that were 97% higher than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the film dominated the European markets.
The top five international markets, excluding the Friday estimates for China, are as follows: China ($54.3 million), France ($2.9 million), Korea ($2.8 million, estimated $4.6 million including Friday), Mexico ($1.6 million), and Germany ($1.3 million).
As the weekend unfolds, Zootopia 2 will open in additional territories, including Spain, the UK, Finland, Turkey, India, and Vietnam.
