Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Takes on the Role of John Creasy in Netflix’s ‘Man On Fire’ First Look
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II steps into the role of John Creasy in the upcoming Netflix series Man on Fire, with a first-look photo released on Tuesday. The eight-episode drama adapts A.J. Quinnell’s Man on Fire and The Perfect Kill, the initial two installments of Quinnell’s five-book series.
Man on Fire follows John Creasy, a skilled Special Forces mercenary grappling with severe PTSD. As he embarks on a quest for redemption, he finds himself drawn back into a life of conflict, determined to confront his past while battling inner demons. The new image reveals Creasy armed and appearing battle-worn, hinting at the character’s tumultuous journey.
The series features a notable cast, including Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor.
The character of Creasy was previously portrayed by Denzel Washington in the 2004 film adaptation directed by Tony Scott. This earlier version was itself based on a 1987 Italian thriller, also titled Man on Fire, in which the character was Christian Creasy, played by Scott Glenn.
Kyle Killen, known for Fear Street, serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The executive production team includes Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann from New Regency Productions, which holds the rights to the intellectual property and also financed the 2004 film. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Tracey Cook from Chernin Entertainment, along with Killen and Scott Pennington from Chapter Eleven, are also involved in the production, alongside Abdul-Mateen II and Stacy Perskie of RedRum.
