Woman Rescued After Car Goes Off Embankment in Simi Valley
A woman was rescued Saturday after her vehicle veered off an embankment in Simi Valley, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 4:10 p.m. on the westbound 118 freeway near Rocky Peak Road, just beyond the Los Angeles and Ventura county line. Ventura County Search and Rescue personnel, returning from a training exercise, observed the vehicle leaving the roadway, as noted by Sgt. Chris Dyer of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses reported seeing the car kick up dust as it went off the side of the road. They confirmed that the female driver exited the vehicle safely. Search and Rescue team members, along with firefighters from Ventura and Los Angeles counties, quickly arrived on the scene to assist.
Fire officials set up a rope system to reach the woman, who had come to rest approximately 40 feet off the road. Remarkably, the team was able to extract her without the need for specialized tools.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with only minor injuries, and no additional injuries were reported.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
