Lindsey Buckingham was reportedly attacked by a woman while en route to an appointment in Santa Monica, California, according to law enforcement sources cited by NBC4 Investigates.
Sources indicate that Buckingham had just entered a building when the woman allegedly threw an unknown substance at him before fleeing the scene. Police believe she had learned the details of his appointment and waited for him beforehand.
Authorities informed NBC4 Investigates that the suspect is known to Buckingham, stemming from previous encounters. No arrests have been made as of yet, although police anticipate that an arrest will occur soon.
Billboard has reached out to Buckingham’s representatives as well as the Santa Monica and Los Angeles police departments for further information.
This incident follows the recent reissue of Buckingham’s 1973 joint album with former bandmate Stevie Nicks, Buckingham Nicks, in September. Despite their famously tumultuous relationship, both musicians expressed their joy on Instagram, stating, “Buckingham Nicks is out now. We’re so happy this album is getting a second life. We hope you love it.”
Following its re-release, the album made its debut on the Billboard 200, entering at No. 11. Fleetwood Mac has achieved 31 titles on this chart, including the record-setting 31-week No. 1 LP Rumours (1977). As a solo artist, Buckingham has recorded 10 charted projects.
Just days before the alleged attack, Buckingham shared an Instagram video discussing his enthusiasm for his ongoing work on a new solo album, as well as an upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary from Apple Original Films.
