WNBA Star Angel McCoughtry Teams Up for ‘Bolted’ Shoot with Sharon Carpenter, Marley Goldberg, Destin Tucker, and Umar Sadiq
WNBA Star Angel McCoughtry Casts Leads for Directorial Debut in Bolted
WNBA champion Angel McCoughtry has finalized the cast for her feature directorial debut, the psychological thriller Bolted.
The film revolves around a group of strangers who awaken in a sealed, high-tech facility in Los Angeles, with no recollection of how they got there. As paranoia mounts and their grasp on reality begins to slip, the characters are compelled to confront buried secrets and connections, as well as a sinister force that seems to know them all too well.
UK journalist, TV presenter, and producer Sharon Carpenter has landed the lead role, marking her most significant film and TV opportunity to date. She has previously appeared in projects such as James Gunn’s Superman, The Lazarus Project, and Empire. In Bolted, Carpenter portrays Blue, or “Lady Blue,” a highly skilled police officer fiercely dedicated to her duty. As supernatural elements distort her perception of reality, she must confront deep-seated guilt that threatens her stability.
Joining Carpenter is Destin Tucker, who recently appeared in an L.A. Rams commercial, a reimagining of the 1995 comedy classic Friday. In Bolted, Tucker plays Josh—a haunting figure linked to the guilt arising from the police shooting of a teenage boy. This character manifests as a cryptic psychic presence, representing both a warning and a reckoning for Blue.
Additionally, retired boxer-turned-actor Umar Sadiq plays Blue’s husband, whose warmth and unwavering support stand in contrast to the escalating chaos surrounding her. Marley Goldberg takes on the role of Billy, a street-smart yet vulnerable teen who becomes trapped with Blue. Initially masking his fear with bravado, Billy ultimately demonstrates unexpected courage, becoming an unlikely ally as peril intensifies.
Production for Bolted is set to commence in Los Angeles this June, marking a significant step for McCoughtry, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the top 25 players in WNBA history. This venture follows the release of her debut short film Bygones, which premiered on Prime Video in February. In that film, a young basketball player grapples with her lost confidence, while a former coach with a complicated past steps in as her mentor.
Sadiq and Goldberg are represented by The Firm LA Model & Talent, while McCoughtry is represented by Adam Griffin and Mike Staudt at Vault Entertainment.
