Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Wraps Up with a Four-Part Finale This Summer, Featuring Selena Gomez’s Directorial Debut in the Premiere Episode
The Russo family is set to return for a final, captivating chapter of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
This series will conclude this summer with a four-part event airing on Disney+ and Disney Channel. Production is scheduled to begin next week.
Selena Gomez, an executive producer for the sequel series, will also make her directorial debut with the premiere episode. She will reprise her role as Alex Russo in several episodes, continuing her involvement from the previous two seasons.
The previous season concluded on a dramatic cliffhanger, revealing that Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) recovered childhood memories erased prior to her living with Justin Russo (David Henrie) and his family. This revelation includes the striking fact that Alex (Gomez) is her mother.
Viewers may recall that Billie’s father is the former dark wizard Damian Pennwolf, who has not yet been introduced. The second season concluded with a prophecy compelling Billie to open a rift to the world of dark magic, orchestrated by her grandfather, Lord Morsus. In an act of heroism, Alex jumps through the portal and closes it from the other side, prompting the rest of the Russos to embark on a quest to find her in the upcoming episodes.
According to Disney’s logline, the four-part event will see Billie, still grappling with Alex’s disappearance, realize that reuniting with her estranged father is the key to rescuing her mother. As Billie’s family unites in their search for Alex, they come to understand that their combined strength is essential to overcoming the evil threatening them.
The Wizards revival has gained considerable popularity among Disney viewers, ranking among the top five titles for kids ages 6-11, teens 12-17, and adults 18-24.
The series features a talented cast, including David Henrie as Justin Russo, Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, Taylor Cora as Winter, and Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo.
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas are serving as writers and executive producers, alongside executive producers Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez, and Henrie. The original Wizards of Waverly Place was created by Todd Greenwald.
