Netflix Announces Premiere Date and Teaser for New Comedy Series, The Hawk
Netflix has released an official teaser for The Hawk, a forthcoming golf comedy series starring Will Ferrell. The series is set to debut on July 16, with the announcement made during Netflix’s Upfront presentation in New York on Wednesday.
The teaser features Ferrell’s character, golf legend Lonnie Hawkins, exclaiming, “Oh, Mama, I’m back!” as he attempts a swing that inadvertently hits a bystander. His exuberance quickly fades as he realizes, “Oh, I’m not back!”
In The Hawk, Lonnie Hawkins, who was once the number one golfer in 2004, finds himself grappling with the twilight of his career. The plot reveals that while his body signals it’s time to retire, his spirit remains determined to make a comeback. His ex-wife and son, Lance, who is currently golf’s rising star, believe Hawkins’ prime has passed. Yet, with one last major tournament needed to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie holds onto the hope that he is just one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golfing history.
The cast includes Molly Shannon as Lonnie’s ex-wife, Stacy, as well as notable actors such as Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby.
Ferrell experienced a brief setback in November due to a minor injury off-set, which required adjustments to the filming schedule while he recovered.
The series is produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions, with executive producers including Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alix Taylor. Additional executive producers are Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue from T-Street, alongside Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest.
