Will Ferrell’s New Golf Comedy Series on Netflix: Title, Release Date, and First Look
Will Ferrell’s much-anticipated golf comedy series at Netflix has officially been titled The Hawk, as announced by the streaming service on Wednesday. This title pays homage to Ferrell’s character, Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, portrayed as a legendary figure in the fictional golf world. Along with the title reveal, Netflix also released a first-look teaser.
In The Hawk, Ferrell’s character, once the top golfer in 2004, faces a career crisis as he attempts to reclaim his former glory. Despite his body’s insistence that it’s time to retire, Lonnie believes he is merely one swing away from achieving the greatest comeback in golf history. Meanwhile, his ex-wife and his son, the rising golf star Lance, doubt his ability to return to the sport’s pinnacle, especially with one major win needed to complete golf’s Grand Slam.
Molly Shannon joins Ferrell, portraying Lonnie’s foul-mouthed ex-wife, Stacy. The cast also includes notable actors such as Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby.
Ferrell experienced a brief setback in November due to a minor injury suffered off set, which disrupted filming for several scenes. Although the injury was not severe, production had to be adjusted while he recovered, as reported by TMZ.
Executive producers for the series include Ferrell alongside Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor of Gloria Sanchez Productions, and Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue from T-Street. Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest also contribute as executive producers.
