Westwood Residents Gather to Celebrate After U.S. Airstrikes in Iran
Mixed Reactions to U.S. Airstrikes on Iran in Southern California
The recent U.S. airstrikes targeting Iran have sparked a divided response among community members in Southern California. While some residents celebrated the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, others condemned the attacks, citing the loss of civilian lives.
On Sunday, dozens of demonstrators gathered in Westwood to express their support for the airstrikes and the death of Khamenei, who had led Iran since 1989. Participants waved both Iranian and American flags as they voiced their approval for the coordinated military action carried out by the U.S. and Israel.
Supporters celebrated in Westwood the day before, calling for greater freedom for the Iranian populace.
Conversely, critics of the airstrikes assembled in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday to express their disapproval through an anti-war protest. A second rally is planned for Sunday afternoon in Boyle Heights.
The contrasting demonstrations reflect the complex views surrounding U.S. military actions and their implications for both international relations and civilian safety.
