Wendi McLendon-Covey Shares Why She Missed the Oscar Night ‘Bridesmaids’ Reunion
Wendi McLendon-Covey was absent from the Oscar stage during the highly anticipated reunion of the Bridesmaids cast last night, leading to questions about her absence.
The actress, known for her role as the candid Rita in the 2011 comedy, did not stand alongside fellow cast members Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, and Maya Rudolph as they presented the awards for Best Score and Best Sound. McLendon-Covey clarified her absence via an Instagram post, stating she was recuperating from a recent neck lift surgery. “In response to some of the dms I’m getting: I had a neck lift last week because I’m tired of looking like a melting candle. So I had to skip the Academy Awards. No drama. Everything is fine,” she wrote, accompanied by a photo featuring her in a bandage reminiscent of Jacob Marley.
Director Paul Feig also weighed in on her absence, expressing surprise. “I just heard that she was not available…. She might even be traveling, I’m not sure. But we will miss her terribly, because I love Wendi,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

Recently, McLendon-Covey has been busy starring as Joyce in the NBC mockumentary sitcom St. Denis Medical.
The Bridesmaids reunion itself was a comedic highlight of the Oscar broadcast, with the cast members humorously contemplating the meaning of the word “sound” before announcing the nominees in that category. Ellie Kemper chimed in, stating, “I think I can help out here. I was just talking to this woman I met on a roller coaster, and she said that without sound, we wouldn’t hear anything.”
