Rivers Cuomo and the band delivered a five-song acoustic performance featuring beloved tracks such as “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Buddy Holly,” “Island in the Sun,” and “Say It Ain’t So.” They were joined by Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino for the song “Go Away.”
This rooftop concert is part of a series of Los Angeles events under the banner of “Weezer: The Gathering – Initiation Week,” which also includes a trivia night at Barney’s Beanery and a pickleball tournament featuring band members, set for March 30.
These activities come in the wake of Thursday’s announcement concerning The Gathering, a 32-date North American arena tour that will begin on September 8 in Sacramento and finish on October 24 in Los Angeles, with support from The Shins and Silversun Pickups.
The tour will feature performances in major venues, including the Chase Center in San Francisco, the United Center in Chicago, and TD Garden in Boston, as well as stops across Canada, with artist presales commencing on March 31.
Ahead of this tour, the band will release a new single titled “Shine Again” on April 1, part of their forthcoming 16th studio album. This marks their first release on Reprise/Warner Records and their first new album since 2021’s Van Weezer, followed by the four-part SZNZ EP series in 2022.
This new album arrives as significant milestones approach: 2026 will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pinkerton, the 25th anniversary of The Green Album, and the 10th anniversary of the Grammy-nominated White Album.
The rooftop concert coincides with a resurgence in streaming interest for Weezer, particularly with “Go Away,” featuring Cosentino, trending on TikTok. The track has become a viral sensation, landing in the Top 40 of the Daily Viral Songs chart and garnering approximately one million streams daily.
Weezer, formed in Los Angeles in 1994, has sold over 10 million albums in the U.S. and more than 35 million worldwide. Their debut album, Weezer (The Blue Album), is regarded as one of the most influential alternative rock records of the 1990s, featuring classic hits like “Buddy Holly” and “Undone – The Sweater Song.” “Beverly Hills,” from their 2005 album Make Believe, also reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The band recently completed a tour in 2023 called ‘Voyage to the Blue Planet,’ celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Blue Album, and co-headlined the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy, which grossed $92.2 million globally.
