Wednesday Playoff Results and Thursday Schedule for High School Boys’ Volleyball
Boys Volleyball Playoffs: Wednesday’s First Round Results and Upcoming Matches
In the first round of the Southern Section Boys Volleyball playoffs, several teams showcased their skills, leading to a series of decisive victories.
In Division 1, Mira Costa received a bye, while Tesoro triumphed over Los Alamitos with scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-17. Corona del Mar defeated Mater Dei in a clean sweep, claiming a 3-0 win. Newport Harbor dominated Millikan, winning 25-8, 25-13, and 25-19, and Santa Margarita also earned a 3-0 victory against San Marcos. Other teams, including Huntington Beach, Loyola, and Redondo Union, received byes for this round.
In Division 2, Camarillo emerged victorious against Anaheim Canyon, winning 25-21, 25-17, and 25-18.
Division 3 saw numerous competitive matches. Palos Verdes defeated Corona Centennial 3-1, and Sage Hill won against Malibu by the same margin. Notably, Valencia triumphed over La Palma Kennedy with scores of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-20, while Claremont also secured a 3-1 victory against Murrieta Valley. Additional winners included Corona Santiago, Eastvale Roosevelt, and Bishop Montgomery, among others.
In Division 5, Dos Pueblos won a challenging match against Aquinas, coming back to win 21-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-11, and 15-13. Hemet edged out Summit 3-2, and Oak Park defeated Damien 25-22, 26-24, and 25-16.
Division 7 featured a strong performance from Rialto, which beat Rosemead 3-1, while La Sierra Academy defeated Sierra Vista 3-0. Other winners in this division included Hacienda Heights Wilson and Cerritos Valley Christian.
Division 9 concluded its matches with Palm Valley defeating Bassett 25-15, 28-26, and 25-17. YULA and Duarte both won their respective matches 3-0.
Looking ahead, the second round is scheduled for Thursday, with notable matchups in Division 4 including Village Christian at Bolsa Grande and Chino Hills facing Long Beach Poly at Lakewood. Additional important matches in Division 6 and Division 8 are also set to take place.
The playoffs will continue with second-round matches for Divisions 3, 5, 7, and 9 on May 1. Quarterfinals for Divisions 1 and 2 are slated for May 5, and the quarterfinals for the remaining divisions will be held on May 6. Semifinals across all divisions are scheduled for May 9, leading to the finals on May 15-16.
