Violet Grohl Shares Her First Solo Songs, ‘THUM’ and ‘Applefish’: A Heartfelt Gift to Fans
Violet Grohl to Release Original Music
Violet Grohl is set to launch her debut music with the release of original tracks. The 19-year-old daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl announced via social media on Friday, December 5, that her first solo single, “THUM,” will be accompanied by the B-side “Applefish.”
In a post on Instagram, Grohl expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m beyond excited to finally share a little bit of what I’ve been working on over the last year. I made these tracks with the most badass group of musicians, so happy they’re finally yours:).”
The new songs will be available on a 7-inch vinyl priced at $8 through Bandcamp. While the alt-rock track “THUM” can be streamed, “Applefish” is offered for digital purchase or on vinyl.
This release comes amid rumors that Grohl has been working on her debut album since last year. The Hollywood Reporter noted that she utilized a studio gifted by her father for her birthday, collaborating with producer Justin Raisen, who has worked with artists such as Charli XCX and Drake.
Violet Grohl first gained recognition as a musician in 2018 when, at the age of 12, she performed a cover of Adele’s “When We Were Young” alongside her father. Since then, she has shared the stage with him and the surviving members of Nirvana for a cover of “Heart-Shaped Box” and has provided backing vocals for various artists, including St. Vincent and Beck.
She contributed backing vocals to the Foo Fighters’ albums *Medicine at Midnight* and *But Here We Are* and performed at tribute concerts honoring the late drummer Taylor Hawkins. In 2021, she released a cover of X’s “Nausea,” collaborating again with her father.
More recently, she showcased her vocal talents by singing lead on Nirvana’s hit “All Apologies” during the 2025 FireAid LA Benefit Concert, performing alongside her father, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear, and Kim Gordon.
