Viola Davis Shares Her Secret to Extra Height at the 2017 Oscars: Platform Sneakers Under Her Dress
Viola Davis, the acclaimed actress, recently revealed an intriguing detail about her appearance at the 2017 Oscars during an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
At the age of 60, Davis looked back on that memorable night when she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. "I won an Oscar. What do you think?" she jokingly responded when asked about her recollections from the event. She then shared a surprising twist regarding her outfit: “Underneath that dress, I have on platform sneakers that were specially made for me that were probably seven inches high.”
Fallon expressed astonishment, asking, “Really?! You’re wearing sneakers there?” Davis confirmed, saying, “I was wearing sneakers right there!” as Fallon displayed a photo of her accepting the award.
Additionally, Davis noted that her Madame Tussauds wax figure features the same striking red dress she wore on that occasion. "I think I have the best wax figure," she said, humorously adding, “It freaked me right the hell out.”
Although Davis is not nominated for any Oscars this year, she expressed hope that Sinners, a film starring Michael B. Jordan, secures an award.
This awards season, Davis has also made notable appearances, including at the 2026 Actor Awards, where she presented Jordan with the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. During her time there, she experienced a wardrobe malfunction, saying, “I did rip my dress open, I did. But it’s all good!”
Davis dazzled in a shimmering blue off-the-shoulder dress while accessorized with a diamond necklace and rings, completing her look with chin-length hair styled in loose waves.
As she continues to shine both on and off the screen, Viola Davis remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
