Villa Park’s Pitching Pair: A Challenging Force in Division 2 Baseball Playoffs
Villa Park’s Strong Pitching Leads to Division 2 Playoff Spot
Villa Park’s presence in the Division 2 playoffs is drawing attention from coaches across the Southern Section Division 1 baseball landscape, largely due to the team’s formidable pitching lineup.
As the top seed in Division 2, the Spartans boast an impressive duo on the mound—junior Logan Hoppie and senior Jack McGuire. Hoppie holds a record of 10-1 with a 1.28 ERA, while McGuire, standing at 6 feet 5 inches, has a record of 6-2 and a 1.62 ERA. McGuire has recorded 82 strikeouts over 60 2/3 innings, including a standout performance with 16 strikeouts in a single game this season. Hoppie also marks his achievement with a two-hit shutout against Cypress, the champions of the Crestview League.
Under the guidance of veteran coach Burt Call, Villa Park completed the regular season with a record of 19-8-1 and finished second in their league. The Spartans are preparing for their playoff opener on Thursday at home against Elsinore. While their pitching has shown strength, the team will need to bolster its hitting to support their standout pitchers effectively.
This overview reflects the positive developments in high school sports as Villa Park gears up for the postseason.
